Medical Treatment
If you
are injured at work, you may be entitled to medical treatment under the Workers’ Compensation System. Treatment to relieve the effects of the work injury is available at no cost to you. Treatment includes medical, surgical, chiropractic, hospitalization, all medicine and medical supplies. You are also entitled to reimbursement for traveling to all medical appointments.
Disability Payments
There are two types of disability payments:
1. Temporary
The
amount of temporary disability (TTD) payments you may be entitled to receive is based upon your average weekly wage. You can receive temporary disability if you are unable to work during your medical
treatment. Once you return to work temporary disability terminates. Generally, your TTD rate is two thirds of your average weekly wage or salary.
2. Permanent
Once
an injury has become permanent and stationary, and if that injury impacts your ability to work, you may be entitled to permanent
disability payments. The amount of permanent disability for your injury is “rated”
based on the medical reports from your treating doctor and/or a qualified medical examiner or an “Agreed Medical Examiner.
Vocational Rehabilitation/Job Displacement Voucher
If you
are unable to continue in your current occupation because of your work injury, you may be entitled to assistance in finding
other employment, including job retraining. For injuries on or after January 1, 2004 you would receive a voucher for
up to $10,000.00 for job retraining. The voucher can be used at the school of your choice depending on several factors
such as school accredidation.
Death
Dependents
of workers who die as a result of a work injury may be entitled to compensation including death benefits, medical treatment
costs paid and burial expenses.
